Plymouth MA,Crossover Open for Vehicle Access
The piping plover chicks near the Crossover have fledged, and the Crossover is open for vehicle access! Because there are still several broods of plover chicks and least tern chicks that cannot fly yet, Crossover access is limited to about 70 vehicles.
The plover chicks just beyond the current restriction are only 24 days old as of August 14, and it can take up to 35 days for them to be able to fly, but the Natural Resources staff will monitor the chicks still remaining on the beach and lift vehicle restrictions as soon as possible.
TIDE CLOSURE REMINDER: Now that the Crossover is open, above average and extreme tides will impact vehicle access daily through August 19. Each day the Natural Resources Officer will determine the timing and extent of tide restrictions and/or closures depending on tide height, beach slope and weather conditions. Vehicles may need to leave the Crossover area. Typically, tide closures last for approximately 1 1/2 hours before and after the high tide. Please keep these tides in mind as you plan your day.
