Bradley Rein Charged With Second-Degree Murder Faces Jail After Alleged Probation Violation
Hingham, Mass. — Bradley Rein, the Hingham man facing a second-degree murder charge in connection with the deadly 2022 crash at the Apple Store at Derby Street Shops, was ordered to remain in custody Monday after prosecutors said he violated conditions of his pretrial release.
According to Boston 25 News, Rein was arrested by Hingham police Sunday after allegedly failing an alcohol test. Alcohol monitoring is among the conditions imposed while he awaits trial. Other conditions of his release include a prohibition on driving, surrendering his passport and remaining subject to court-ordered restrictions.

Rein appeared Monday in Brockton Superior Court, where prosecutors asked the court to revoke his bail. A judge granted the request and revoked his pretrial probation. Boston 25 reported that Rein is expected to remain in custody for up to 90 days.
The latest violation comes nearly four years after the November 2022 crash that sent an SUV through the front of the Apple Store at the Derby Street Shops in Hingham.
The crash killed 65-year-old Kevin Bradley and injured numerous other people inside the store. Rein has pleaded not guilty to charges that include second-degree murder and motor vehicle homicide. The case has been delayed several times, and he is scheduled to return to court in October, according to Boston 25.
The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office previously said Rein was indicted on second-degree murder and motor vehicle homicide by reckless operation charges following the investigation into the crash. Prosecutors also charged him with reckless operation and multiple counts of aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
The district attorney’s office has previously sought to have Rein’s bail revoked over alleged violations of his release conditions.
In 2023, prosecutors said Rein failed to keep his GPS monitoring bracelet charged, resulting in authorities losing contact with the device. Hingham police made multiple visits to his residence before he was taken into custody. A judge subsequently revoked his bail for 60 days.
Rein was later released while the criminal case continued. His release conditions included GPS monitoring and alcohol screening, according to previous court reporting.
The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office has alleged that Rein was driving a 2019 Toyota 4Runner when it crashed through the Apple Store’s front window on Nov. 21, 2022. Investigators previously determined the vehicle was accelerating in the seconds before the collision. Rein told police his foot became stuck on the accelerator, according to the DA’s office.
The current proceedings concern Rein’s alleged violation of his release conditions and do not represent a determination of guilt on the underlying criminal charges. He remains presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
The case remains active in Plymouth County Superior Court, with Rein expected back before a judge in October.
