Regional Access & Connection Policy

Last Updated: July 25, 2026

At Plimoth Today, our primary mission is to serve local communities across Plymouth County and Massachusetts with hyper-local news, public safety alerts, weather updates, and regional resources.

To maintain the security, reliability, and speed of our website for our readers, Plimoth Today strictly limits network access to connections originating within the United States.

1. USA-Only Access Requirement

  • Geographic Scope: Access to plimothtoday.com and its associated subdomains, web applications, and API feeds is intended solely for users connecting from IP addresses geolocated within the United States.
  • Automated Geo-Blocking: Automated firewalls and edge security measures actively block or drop connection requests originating from IP addresses located outside the United States.

2. Automated Traffic, Bots & Datacenters

To prevent unauthorized content scraping, brute-force security attacks, and malicious automated traffic, we enforce strict network security controls:

  • Datacenter & Proxy Filtering: Traffic coming from known non-US datacenters, foreign VPNs, commercial proxy servers, or automated bot networks will be automatically blocked at the server level.
  • Malicious Traffic Dropping: Suspicious automated requests or scans targeting backend assets will result in immediate and permanent IP dropping (via automated network defense systems like Fail2Ban and firewall rules).

3. VPN & Overseas Access

If you are a legitimate local resident travelling abroad or using an encrypted Virtual Private Network (VPN) routing through servers outside the US:

  • You may encounter an “Access Denied,” “403 Forbidden,” or connection timeout page.
  • To restore access, please disconnect from foreign VPN nodes and reconnect using a standard US-based network connection or mobile provider.

4. Why We Enforce This Policy

  • Security & System Stability: Over 95% of automated attacks, malicious scrapers, and spam traffic target local news sites from foreign server networks. Restricting connections ensures server stability and zero downtime for actual local readers.
  • Local Relevance: Plimoth Today’s content, municipal aggregators, and environmental tools are specifically designed for local public use within Plymouth County and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
