Marshfield Man Brian Pfaffinger Faces Federal Charges in Alleged MBTA Inspection Records Case
MARSHFIELD, Mass. — A Marshfield man is facing federal criminal charges connected to an investigation into alleged falsification of MBTA Red Line track inspection records and overtime documentation, according to federal prosecutors.
Brian Pfaffinger, 48, of Marshfield, was among several current and former MBTA employees charged in a case involving allegations that inspection records and related documents were improperly completed.
Federal prosecutors allege that Pfaffinger, who previously worked as an MBTA Red Line Maintenance of Way supervisor, participated in a scheme involving inaccurate track inspection records between January and October 2024.
According to the allegations, some records submitted during that period falsely indicated that required inspections had been completed. Prosecutors also allege that inaccurate documentation was used in connection with overtime payments.
Pfaffinger faces charges including conspiracy to falsify records, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, falsification of records, and making false statements, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Massachusetts.

The charges are part of a broader investigation into MBTA maintenance practices and employee records. Prosecutors say the case involves alleged misconduct related to the reporting of safety inspections and work hours.
No conviction has been entered against Pfaffinger. Like all defendants charged with a crime, he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
The case will proceed through the federal court system, where future hearings and filings will determine the next steps.
What Residents Should Know
