SUV Crashes Into Abington Home, Driver Facing OUI Charges
ABINGTON, Mass. — A 54-year-old Abington man is facing multiple charges after police say he crashed an SUV into an occupied home on High Street Saturday night.
According to the Abington Police Department, officers and firefighters responded to the scene around 9:05 p.m. on June 13 after receiving reports of a vehicle that had left the roadway and struck a residence. The crash caused significant damage to the home.

The driver, identified by police as Derek Walsh, was transported to South Shore Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The people inside the home at the time of the crash were not injured.
Following an investigation, police charged Walsh with:
- Operating Under the Influence (OUI) of Alcohol
- Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Marked Lanes Violation
- Speeding
- Failure to Wear a Seat Belt
Police said crashes like this are preventable and emphasized the importance of using a sober ride home when impaired. Walsh is scheduled to be arraigned in court on June 22.
What do you think? Should penalties for drunk driving be tougher when a crash damages someone’s home? Let us know in the comments.
