ABINGTON CRASH: 17-Year-Old Driver Killed, Four Teens Injured Following Stolen Vehicle Incident
ABINGTON Mass — State and local authorities are investigating a tragic single-vehicle crash in Abington that left a 17-year-old driver dead and four other teenagers seriously injured Wednesday morning.
According to Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz and Abington Police Chief John Bonney, the incident unfolded at approximately 7:50 a.m. when Abington Police officers spotted a Hyundai Santa Fe that had been previously reported stolen. Officers attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop, during which the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree at 877 Washington Street.
Casualties and Medical Response
Five individuals were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash:
- The Driver: 17-year-old Sebastian Hamilton was pinned inside the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
- The Passengers: One female occupant was ejected from the vehicle upon impact. Three other passengers—one male and two females—sustained life-threatening injuries and were initially treated at local hospitals before being rushed to Boston-area medical facilities.
The four surviving teenagers remain hospitalized for ongoing medical treatment.

Friends and family are mourning the sudden loss of Hamilton amid a wave of profound family hardships. According to loved ones, Hamilton had recently suffered the loss of his father earlier this month, followed by the passing of his younger sibling’s mother just days prior.
A makeshift memorial has emerged at the crash site on Washington Street, featuring tokens of remembrance and a flyer bearing a sentiment from grieving friends and family: “We love you Sebastian.” Those who knew him have described him as a good kid who had endured immense personal challenges.
