Plymouth, Mass. — First Responders Recall Patrick Clancy’s Heartbreaking Words During Day 3 of Lindsay Clancy Murder Trial

Emotional testimony continued Thursday in the murder trial of Lindsay Clancy as jurors heard from several of the first police officers and emergency responders who arrived at the Clancy family’s Duxbury home on Jan. 24, 2023.

Duxbury Police Officer Brian Josephine testified that when he entered the basement, Patrick Clancy looked at responding officers and screamed, “She killed the f—ing kids!” The statement came moments after Patrick discovered his three children—5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan—unresponsive inside the home.

Officer Stephen Hall testified that Patrick had first gone inside to check on the children while officers treated Lindsay Clancy outside after her suicide attempt. Moments later, Hall said he heard Patrick screaming from inside the house before officers rushed to the basement, where they found the children. Hall recalled Patrick repeatedly saying, “I can’t wake them up.”

Jurors also heard testimony describing the desperate efforts made by police officers, firefighters, and paramedics to save the children. Officers carried Dawson upstairs to waiting ambulances while emergency crews performed CPR on Cora and infant Callan. Despite those efforts, all three children died.

The defense declined to cross-examine the responding officers, with defense attorney Kevin Reddington thanking them for their service before they stepped down from the witness stand. Court adjourned early Thursday, and jurors are expected to visit locations connected to the case Friday before testimony resumes.

Lindsay Clancy has pleaded not guilty to three counts of murder by reason of lack of criminal responsibility. Prosecutors argue she deliberately planned and carried out the killings, while the defense contends she was suffering from severe postpartum mental illness and psychosis that left her unable to appreciate the wrongfulness of her actions. The trial is expected to continue for several more weeks.
