BREAKING:Brockton Mayor Moises Rodrigues Charged With Assault and Battery
Brockton Mass-The charge stems from allegations involving a teenage student during a public event held in Brockton earlier this year. The incident sparked significant public attention after the student’s family accused the mayor of making unwanted physical contact.
Investigators spent several weeks reviewing evidence before prosecutors approved the criminal charge.

The case has remained in the spotlight for months. Earlier this summer, a judge declined to extend a harassment prevention order that had been issued against Rodrigues. While that civil matter concluded, the criminal investigation continued independently, ultimately resulting in the assault and battery charge.
Rodrigues has denied any intentional wrongdoing and has said any contact with the student was accidental and not intended to make anyone uncomfortable. His attorney has indicated the mayor plans to contest the allegations as the case moves forward.
The filing of the criminal charge marks the beginning of the court process. An arraignment is expected, where the charge will be formally presented and future court dates scheduled. Prosecutors will have the burden of proving the allegation beyond a reasonable doubt.
As with all criminal cases, the charge is an allegation, and Mayor Rodrigues is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
