Severe Storms and Coastal Flooding Possible Across Massachusetts Sunday Night
Plymouth County MA -Residents across Massachusetts, including Plymouth County and the South Shore, are being urged to keep an eye on the weather Sunday night as forecasters warn of strong thunderstorms, damaging wind gusts, heavy rain, and the possibility of minor coastal flooding.

According to weather officials, a cold front moving through New England is expected to trigger showers and thunderstorms beginning late Sunday afternoon and continuing through the evening hours. Some of the storms could become severe, bringing powerful wind gusts capable of downing tree limbs and causing isolated power outages. Frequent lightning and brief periods of heavy rainfall are also possible.
While the highest threat for severe weather is expected across western and central Massachusetts, storms are forecast to move eastward and could impact communities throughout Plymouth County, including Plymouth, Kingston, Duxbury, Marshfield, Carver, Halifax, Hanson, Pembroke, Middleborough, Wareham, and surrounding towns.
Along the coast, forecasters are also monitoring the potential for minor coastal flooding. Higher-than-normal astronomical tides combined with a modest storm surge could lead to water covering some low-lying roads and shoreline areas during the evening high tide cycle Sunday night and again Monday night. Coastal communities such as Marshfield, Scituate, Duxbury, Plymouth, and Hull may experience splash-over and minor flooding in the most vulnerable locations.
Although widespread flooding is not expected, residents should be prepared for localized street flooding where heavy rain falls in a short period of time. Drivers are urged to use caution during the evening commute and avoid driving through flooded roadways.
The severe weather threat is expected to diminish overnight as the cold front moves offshore. Cooler and less humid air will arrive on Monday, bringing more comfortable conditions for the start of the workweek.
Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor furniture, charge electronic devices in case of power outages, and stay informed by monitoring weather alerts throughout the evening.
