The break-in happened during the early morning hours of Wednesday, September 2. Marshfield police were called to a residence at approximately 5 a.m. after the homeowner reported that a detached garage had been broken into.

According to police, surveillance footage captured three masked suspects entering the garage between approximately 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. The suspects allegedly forced their way inside before taking the recreational vehicles.

The stolen property included eight dirt bikes and one all-terrain vehicle. Authorities estimated the total value of the vehicles at approximately $93,000.

Investigators from the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department Bureau of Criminal Investigation processed the scene as Marshfield detectives began working to identify those responsible.

Police said investigators used surveillance footage, along with information obtained through social media and assistance from other police departments, to identify a suspect.

On September 4, Plymouth District Court issued an arrest warrant for Aiden Amaral, 20, of New Bedford.

Marshfield police subsequently traveled to New Bedford, where officers arrested Amaral and transported him to Marshfield police headquarters.

Amaral is facing multiple charges related to the alleged break-in and theft.

According to authorities, the charges include breaking and entering into a building in the nighttime with intent to commit a felony, nine counts of larceny of a motor vehicle, three counts of malicious and wanton damage or defacement of property, larceny over $1,200, larceny from a building and trespassing.

Amaral is scheduled to be arraigned in Plymouth District Court on Tuesday, September 8.

Police have not indicated that all of the stolen vehicles have been recovered.

The investigation involved cooperation between Marshfield police and departments in Lakeville and Plymouth, along with the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

Authorities are asking anyone who may have information about the burglary, the stolen dirt bikes or ATV, or the identity of the other individuals involved to contact the Marshfield Police Department.

As with all criminal charges, Amaral is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

The case remains under investigation, and additional charges or arrests are possible as detectives continue working to determine exactly what happened and where the stolen vehicles may have been taken.
