Porch Fire Spreads Into East Bridgewater Home Overnight
EAST BRIDGEWATER, Mass. — Two residents and a dog safely escaped after an overnight fire spread from a porch into a home on Pleasant Avenue early Sunday morning. Fire officials say working smoke alarms likely prevented a tragedy.
According to East Bridgewater Fire Chief John Dzialo, firefighters were dispatched to 90 Pleasant Ave. at approximately 12:30 a.m. on June 21 after reports of a porch fire. The first engine on scene found heavy flames already extending from the porch into the house. Crews immediately launched an aggressive attack while mutual aid departments were called to assist.
Firefighters from Bridgewater, West Bridgewater, Whitman, and Abington responded to help battle the blaze, while Hanson firefighters provided station coverage. Off-duty East Bridgewater firefighters also responded to assist.
Officials said two occupants and their dog were able to get out safely before firefighters arrived after being alerted by working smoke alarms. No injuries were reported. Fire crews remained on scene until approximately 3 a.m. extinguishing hot spots and checking for hidden fire extension within the structure.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the East Bridgewater Fire Department. Fire officials are reminding residents to make sure smoke alarms are working properly and to use extra caution with outdoor fire pits, grills, and other open flames during the summer months.
