200-Pound Black Bear Near Bourne Bridge Campground Sedated and Relocated
BOURNE, MASS. — A 200-pound black bear was safely removed from the area after being spotted near a campground close to the Bourne Bridge and Cape Cod Canal.
Officials responded after reports of the bear in the Bourne area, including a sighting near Bourne Scenic Park, a popular campground along the canal. The bear’s presence prompted a response from local authorities and wildlife officials.
Bourne Police and local natural resource officials monitored the bear as it moved through the area. The animal eventually returned to a wooded area, but because of its location near campers, residents, and heavy public activity, officials determined that relocation was the safest option.

Massachusetts Environmental Police responded and safely sedated the bear before moving it to a more suitable location away from the campground and surrounding neighborhoods.
The bear was removed without incident, and officials reminded the public to keep a safe distance from black bears, avoid feeding wildlife, and contact authorities if a bear is spotted in a populated area.
Black bear sightings have become more common in parts of southeastern Massachusetts as bear populations continue to expand across the state. Wildlife officials advise residents to secure trash, remove outdoor food sources, and take precautions to avoid attracting bears.
