Brockton Mayor Speaks Out After Graduation Ceremony Disruption
BrocktonMA-A Brockton High School graduation ceremony took an emotional turn Saturday when a mother interrupted Mayor Moises Rodrigues during his speech, accusing him of inappropriate conduct involving her daughter.
The interruption happened in front of graduates, families, and school staff, bringing the ceremony to a brief halt.

After the incident, Rodrigues released a statement saying he had been informed during Brockton’s Huntington Day Parade that an interaction he had with a student allegedly made her uncomfortable. He said the matter is being reviewed by the school department and noted that no restraining order has been issued against him.
The mayor also said he does not personally know the student or her mother. According to Rodrigues, the family had asked school officials that he not attend the graduation ceremony. He attended the event but chose not to hand out diplomas in an effort to avoid direct interaction with students.
The Plymouth District Attorney’s Office has confirmed that Massachusetts State Police are investigating a complaint filed by the student and her parents involving both Brockton Public Schools and the mayor. Officials have not released details about the allegations, and no charges have been filed.
The investigation remains ongoing.
