The online circus surrounding Patrick Clancy is one of the clearest examples of how toxic internet true-crime culture has become

Plimoth-There is a special kind of moral decay reserved for the digital vultures who prey on human tragedy for pocket change and subscriber counts. Across TikTok, YouTube, and bottom-feeding podcast networks, a cottage industry of shameless clout-chasers has transformed the unspeakable nightmare of Patrick Clancy into an interactive spectator sport. These aren’t journalists. They aren’t investigators. They are algorithmic parasites—digital scavengers who have decided that a grieving father’s agonizing reality is nothing more than free material for their low-budget content mills.

Let’s call this phenomenon what it actually is: an epidemic of parasitic fraud. Self-appointed “armchair sleuths,” pseudo body-language gurus, and conspiracy-peddling grifters sit in their bedrooms, hit record, and pull insane claims out of thin air. They pick apart court footage like it’s a trashy reality TV drama, zoom in on 2-second facial twitches, and spin sick fan-fiction about timelines and framing conspiracies—all while dangling a cash-app handle or a “Support my Patreon” link right below the video. They don’t care about justice, and they certainly don’t care about the truth. Truth doesn’t sell. Suspicion, rage, and sensationalism drive the algorithm, and these creators are more than happy to trade whatever shred of human decency they have left for a temporary spike in their monthly ad revenue.

What makes this online mob so utterly vile is their total, willful disregard for documented, undeniable facts. In the real world—where legal evidence actually matters—Patrick Clancy was thoroughly investigated, cleared, and proven completely innocent beyond a shadow of a doubt. His movements that fateful evening were verified down to the minute by receipts, store surveillance cameras, cell phone tower data, and official law enforcement records. Neither the prosecution nor the defense ever questioned his account or dropped a single hint of suspicion against him. Yet, to the conspiracy goblins on social media, official police records, sworn court testimony, and hard digital evidence mean nothing compared to a 15-second spliced clip set to eerie background music.

This isn’t just harmless internet noise; it is targeted, systematic psychological harassment disguised as “entertainment.” When a man has survived the absolute worst horror imaginable—losing his children and his entire life as he knew it—he should be allowed to grieve, rebuild, and find whatever thread of peace remains in this world. Instead, every time he tries to breathe, an army of bored, chronically online weirdos mobilizes to drag his name through the dirt for a hit of dopamine and a few hundred comments. Social media platforms have built a system that actively monetizes cruelty, giving a loudspeaker to the absolute worst instincts of human nature.

It’s time to stop calling these channels “true crime creators” and start calling them what they really are: cyber-vultures and moral bankrupts. If you spend your free time editing conspiracy videos about a victim of unimaginable tragedy, you haven’t uncovered a secret narrative; you have simply proven that your own life is so hollow and meaningless that you must leech off someone else’s agony just to feel relevant. The platforms hosting this trash need to be held accountable, but so does the audience feeding the monster. Every click, every view, and every comment fuels this grotesque machine. Stop giving the grifters an audience, report the harassment, and leave a grieving man in peace.

We Pray For Patrick
