Abington, Mass. – Five Seriously Injured After Stolen Car Crashes Into Tree During Police Pursuit

Five people were seriously injured Wednesday morning after a stolen vehicle being pursued by police crashed into a tree in Abington, according to Massachusetts State Police.

The crash happened at approximately 8:00 a.m. on Washington Street after Abington police began pursuing the reportedly stolen vehicle. Authorities said the driver lost control, left the roadway, and slammed into a tree, causing catastrophic damage to the car.

State Police Sgt. Gregory Jones said all five occupants inside the vehicle suffered serious injuries. Two of those victims were reported to be in critical condition and were initially believed to have potentially life-threatening injuries. Emergency crews rushed all five occupants to area hospitals for treatment.

Photos from the scene showed the vehicle completely destroyed, with debris scattered across a nearby yard. The force of the impact left emergency responders working for an extended period to secure the crash scene and assist the victims.

Following the collision, Washington Street was closed between Central Street and Lincoln Boulevard while investigators documented the scene and cleared the wreckage. Motorists were urged to avoid the area as police continued their investigation.

Investigators have not yet released details about where the pursuit began or why the vehicle was initially being chased. Officials have also not identified any of the occupants involved, and no charges have been announced as the investigation remains active.

Massachusetts State Police are assisting Abington police in determining the circumstances leading up to the pursuit and the deadly crash. Authorities will also review the events surrounding the police chase as part of the standard investigative process.

Police have not indicated whether any innocent motorists or pedestrians were involved in the incident. At this time, all reported injuries were sustained by the occupants of the stolen vehicle.

The crash remains under investigation, and additional information is expected to be released as authorities continue gathering evidence and notifying families.

Residents in the area experienced significant traffic delays throughout the morning as investigators worked at the scene. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes until all road closures are lifted.
