Abington, Mass. – Woman Charged With Assaulting 2-Month-Old Child Following Joint Investigation

A 34-year-old Abington woman has been arrested and is expected to be arraigned Friday after authorities allege she physically abused her two-month-old daughter, according to Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz and Abington Police Chief John Bonney.

Jillian Timmons, 34, is charged with two counts of Assault and Battery on a Child Causing Serious Bodily Injury and one count of Reckless Endangerment of a Child.

The charges follow a two-week investigation conducted jointly by the Abington Police Department and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.

According to prosecutors, the investigation began on July 17 after medical staff at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth contacted authorities to report suspected physical abuse involving a two-month-old infant. Hospital personnel became concerned after Timmons brought her daughter to the hospital for medical treatment and notified law enforcement, as required when abuse is suspected.

Following the report, investigators from the Abington Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office launched a joint investigation. Detectives worked together over the course of approximately two weeks, reviewing evidence, gathering information, and coordinating with medical professionals as they sought to determine how the infant sustained her injuries.

According to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, investigators ultimately developed probable cause to seek criminal charges against Timmons. She was taken into custody Thursday afternoon without incident.

Authorities said the two-month-old child has since been transferred to a Boston hospital, where she continues to receive specialized medical treatment. Officials have not released additional details regarding the nature of the child’s injuries or her current condition.

Timmons is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in , where the charges against her will be formally presented. Additional information, including bail conditions and future court dates, may become available following the arraignment.

Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz and Abington Police Chief John Bonney announced the arrest Thursday and credited the coordinated efforts of local police officers, State Police detectives, and medical professionals for their roles in the investigation.

The case remains under active investigation by the Abington Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office. Authorities have not indicated whether additional charges or arrests are anticipated.

As with all criminal cases, the charges against Timmons are allegations. She is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

Anyone with information that could assist investigators is encouraged to contact the Abington Police Department or the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.
