18-Year-Old Arrested After Allegedly Making Threats, Displaying Gun Outside Kingston Prom
KINGSTON, Mass. — An 18-year-old man was arrested Thursday night after police say he made threats and displayed what appeared to be a firearm outside a prom at Indian Pond Country Club in Kingston.
According to Kingston police, officers working a detail at the South Shore Technical High School prom requested backup around 7:15 p.m. after reports of a disturbance involving a man with a gun in the parking lot of the country club on Country Club Way.
Police identified the suspect as Adrian Arroyo, 18, of Randolph. Investigators said Arroyo was not a student at the school but attended the prom because of a previous relationship with one of the attendees.
Authorities say an argument that began inside the event continued outside into the parking lot, where the situation escalated. Witnesses told police Arroyo allegedly threatened to run over another student with his vehicle before pulling out what appeared to be a black semi-automatic handgun. Investigators said he allegedly pointed the weapon into the air and may have loaded a round into the chamber before fleeing the scene.
Officers interviewed witnesses, reviewed surveillance footage, and issued a regional alert to surrounding law enforcement agencies. Arroyo was later located at his home in Randolph, where police said he surrendered peacefully after officers surrounded the property.
During a court-authorized search of the home, investigators recovered a black Crossman BB gun replica pistol from the glove compartment of a vehicle on the property. Police said no real firearms were found, and the BB gun matched witness descriptions provided during the investigation.
Arroyo is expected to face multiple felony charges, including assault with a dangerous weapon, during his arraignment in Plymouth District Court.
Police said there was an increased law enforcement presence at the prom following the incident, but no injuries were reported and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
