Woman Dies Following House Fire in Braintree; Cause Under Investigation
BRAINTREE, Mass. — A woman has died after a fire broke out inside a home in Braintree Saturday afternoon, October 31, according to fire officials.

Braintree firefighters were dispatched to 16 Warren Avenue at approximately 2:40 p.m. after receiving a report of a structure fire, Fire Chief Frederick Viola said.
When emergency crews arrived, they found Braintree police officers and a local resident attempting to rescue someone trapped inside the home’s kitchen.

Firefighters immediately began working to extinguish the fire while also providing medical assistance to the victim, who had suffered serious injuries.
The woman was transported to South Shore Hospital, where she later died.
Authorities have not released the victim’s identity. Officials said the cause of the fire appeared to be related to candles and/or smoking materials. The investigation remains ongoing.
Fire Chief Viola also reported that the home did not have working smoke alarms at the time of the fire.
Officials are reminding residents to make sure smoke alarms are properly installed and functioning, particularly as colder weather approaches and people begin spending more time indoors.
This is a developing story. Additional information may be released as the investigation continues.
