Suspect Expected to Change Plea in Crash That Killed Three Road Workers
WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA /Brockton MA— A man accused in a crash that killed three road construction workers on Interstate 91 is expected to appear in court Tuesday, October 27, 2026, for a hearing to change his plea, according to Western Mass News.
The case stems from a fatal crash on March 28, 2025, along the northbound side of I-91 near Exit 10A in West Springfield. Three workers repairing a guardrail were struck and killed.
The victims were identified as Igor Costa, 26, of Marlborough; Ryan Almeida, 48, of Brockton; and Raul Bohorquez, 57, of Brockton. All three were employees of Premier Fence Company.
According to authorities, a vehicle traveling northbound struck the guardrail and the workers at the construction site while attempting to take the Exit 10A ramp toward Riverdale Street.
Investigators reported that the driver left the vehicle and fled on foot after the crash. Bilal Griffith, of West Springfield, was later arrested in connection with the incident.

Griffith was charged with three counts of manslaughter and leaving the scene of a crash resulting in personal injury or death. He previously pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned in March 2025.
The expected plea-change hearing is scheduled to take place at Hampden Superior Court in Springfield. A change of plea could affect how the case proceeds through the court system.
The deaths of the three workers highlighted the risks construction crews face while working near moving traffic. Transportation officials routinely urge drivers to slow down, remain alert and follow posted work-zone restrictions to help protect workers.
