Holbrook Police Officers Rescue Driver From Burning Jeep After Crash
HOLBROOK, Mass. — Three Holbrook police officers rescued a driver from a burning Jeep after a serious crash early Sunday morning, October 25, according to Western Mass News.

Police said officers responded to Pine Street at approximately 3:20 a.m. after the Jeep crashed and caught fire.
The first officer to arrive, Jonathan O’Brien, found a utility pole broken in half, electrical wires hanging low and flames spreading across the front of the vehicle. Bystanders told the officer that the driver was still trapped inside.
The 37-year-old Holbrook man had managed to partially escape the Jeep, but his right foot was pinned beneath the damaged dashboard. Police reported that his foot and sneaker were on fire.
Sergeant Martin Faherty and Officer Matthew Richards arrived to assist O’Brien. Working together, the three officers freed the driver within approximately one minute and pulled him to safety.
The driver was transported to a hospital in Weymouth with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening. Officer O’Brien sustained minor burns to his fingers during the rescue.
Holbrook Police Chief David Del Papa praised the officers for their actions, stating that their quick response likely saved the driver’s life.
A preliminary investigation found that the Jeep left the roadway, struck a utility pole and a tree, and then crashed into a nearby retaining wall. Several nearby properties also sustained damage.
Police said the driver will be summoned to court on charges that include operating under the influence of liquor, second offense; negligent operation of a motor vehicle; a marked-lanes violation; and speeding.
The crash remains under investigation.
