Lakeville Police Officers Involved in Fatal Shooting on Heritage Hill; DA’s Office Releases Details
LAKEVILLE — A Saturday afternoon well-being check at a Lakeville residence turned deadly over the weekend, resulting in an officer-involved shooting that left a 31-year-old man dead and four police officers hospitalized for evaluation, according to Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz.
The incident unfolded on Saturday, September 27, at approximately 2:00 p.m., when a concerned resident walked into the Lakeville Police Department. The individual requested an immediate well-being check for a family member at 8 Heritage Hill, reporting that the relative was acting erratically, appeared heavily disturbed, and was in possession of a firearm.
Lakeville Police officers responded promptly to the residence, accompanied by the reporting party, who granted officers access into the home.
According to investigators, officers proceeded to a second-floor bedroom where they encountered 31-year-old Gregory Buckley. Authorities stated that Buckley was pointing a firearm directly at the responding officers. Police gave repeated verbal commands instructing Buckley to lower and drop the weapon.
When Buckley refused to comply with the commands, an exchange of gunfire occurred, resulting in Buckley being struck.
Officers immediately initiated first-aid measures at the scene. Buckley was subsequently transported by emergency medical services to Morton Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
Four Lakeville police officers involved in the incident were transported to a local hospital for precautionary evaluations following the encounter. All four officers were later treated and released.
District Attorney Cruz’s office confirmed that the entire encounter was captured on the officers’ body-worn cameras, providing crucial visual documentation for the ongoing inquiry.
The investigation into the shooting is active and being handled jointly by Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and local authorities. Further updates are expected as the investigation continues.
