Plymouth, Mass. — “Crime Junkie” Arrested Outside Lindsay Clancy Trial Says Filming Jurors Was a Misunderstanding

A woman who described herself as a “crime junkie” and a supporter of Lindsay Clancy was arrested outside Plymouth Superior Court after authorities accused her of recording jurors leaving the courthouse.

Dawn Light, 56, of Sutton, Massachusetts, was arrested Tuesday shortly after jurors in the highly watched Clancy murder trial were dismissed for the day. Prosecutors allege Light entered a restricted area near the courthouse and filmed members of the jury, despite an order prohibiting the photographing or recording of jurors.

Light, however, says the incident was a misunderstanding.

According to reporting from multiple outlets, Light said she had been waiting outside because she wanted to record or photograph Lindsay Clancy as she left the courthouse. Light said she realized the person she was initially filming was not Clancy and quickly lowered her phone.

Authorities tell a different story.

Assistant District Attorney Nicole Piacentini said investigators determined Light had been recording the jurors. Prosecutors also alleged that a video showing jurors leaving the courthouse was found in the deleted-files section of Light’s phone.

The incident was particularly significant because Judge William Sullivan had previously issued an order prohibiting anyone from filming or photographing members of the jury.

Light’s attorney described the case as a “complete misunderstanding,” saying her client was attempting to obtain a picture of Clancy and had no intention of interacting with or intimidating jurors.

Light pleaded not guilty to a charge involving intimidation of a juror, witness or person furnishing information in a criminal proceeding. A judge released her without requiring cash bail but ordered her to stay away from the courthouse, jurors and witnesses connected to the case.

The arrest came at a particularly sensitive point in the Clancy trial.

The jury has been deliberating for several days and previously informed the judge that it was unable to reach a unanimous decision. Judge Sullivan instructed the jurors to continue their deliberations.

Following the courthouse incident, the judge questioned jurors individually to determine whether the alleged filming had affected them or their ability to remain impartial.

Clancy, 36, is accused of killing her three young children at the family’s Duxbury home in January 2023. She has acknowledged causing the children’s deaths but has pleaded not guilty by reason of lack of criminal responsibility, with her defense arguing that she was suffering from severe postpartum psychosis.

Prosecutors have argued that Clancy was criminally responsible for the killings.

The jury’s deliberations remain ongoing, meaning there is still no verdict in the case.

Light is scheduled to return to court on October 15.
