Community Members Invited to Dispose of Unwanted Materials at Household Hazardous Waste Collection Plymouth MA

 The Town of Plymouth, in partnership with the South Shore Recycling Cooperative, invites community members to dispose of unwanted materials at the Household Hazardous Waste Collection this October.

 Saturday, Oct. 24, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Plymouth’s Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day is open to residents at no charge with proof of residency. Plymouth small businesses can also attend and pay a fee of up to $59 per 25 gallons of liquids (based on container size) or 50lb if solid. Registration is required ahead of the event. Those interested can register on the South Shore Recycling Cooperative’s website or by calling 781-243-1132.

Accepted items include: Acids and bases, aerosols, adhesives, antifreeze, automotive fluids, lithium and li ion batteries, cesspool cleaners, cleaners and polishes, drain cleaners, degreasers, driveway sealer, fertilizers containing pesticides and herbicides, fiberglass resin, flammable liquids, fluorescent tubes, gasoline, hobby/artist supplies, marine and auto paints, mercury-containing products including thermostats, fluorescent tubes, etc., mothballs and crystals, motor oil, stains, oil- and solvent- based paints, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, photography chemicals, poisons, pool chemicals and wood preservatives. Flares will also be collected at the Plymouth event.

Latex, acrylic, and water-based paint or coatings will not be accepted. 

Please call 781-329-8318 before the event if disposing of asbestos and elemental mercury, as these hazardous materials need special packaging.

Propane tanks and fire extinguishers will be accepted for a fee. Plymouth County residents can also drop off up to six off-rim tires at no additional cost courtesy of Plymouth County Mosquito Control.

All items must be in cardboard boxes, not bags, and placed in the trunk, bed, or rear of the vehicle. Containers holding liquids should be no larger than 5 gallons. 

This event is also open to residents of Abington, Braintree, Cohasset, Duxbury, East Bridgewater, Hanover, Hanson, Hingham, Hull, Kingston, Marshfield, Norwell, Pembroke, Rockland, Scituate, Weymouth, and Whitman.

If you cannot attend the October 24th event, Plymouth residents can attend other collection events at no charge with proof of residency. For more information, visit the South Shore Recycling Cooperative website.
