The Town of Plymouth reports that residents of two properties on Pleasant Street have been temporarily displaced due to a malfunctioning sewer main lining.
At approximately 11:50 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25, the Plymouth Department of Public Works (DPW) was notified that a crew from Insituform Technologies was performing sewer main lining on Pleasant Street, between Jefferson and Robinson Streets, when a hole was found in the liner, resulting in the release of steam from the lining process into two nearby properties.
Crews immediately stopped work and notified the DPW. Subsequently, the DPW notified the Plymouth Fire Department. Plymouth Fire crews and DPW personnel were dispatched to the scene to investigate and determine the extent of damages. The Plymouth Public Health Division and Inspectional Services were also notified.
No injuries were reported as a result of this incident; however, the release of steam caused odorous conditions which made the affected properties temporarily unsuitable for occupancy. As a precaution, the Town’s contractors are arranging temporary lodging for the affected households while the necessary repairs and cleanup are completed.
While this is believed to be an isolated incident, the Town is currently assessing the extent of properties affected by this malfunction while crews work to correct the issue as quickly and safely as possible. There are no safety or air quality concerns for the Pleasant Street area and surrounding streets at this time.
