Hanson, MA Apartment Fire on Main Street Displaces Two Residents
Hanson, Mass. — Two People Displaced After Main Street Apartment Fire
Two people were displaced after a cooking-related fire broke out Wednesday evening inside a second-floor apartment on Main Street in Hanson.
According to the Hanson Fire Department, firefighters were called to 352 Main St. at approximately 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, August 12, following reports of a fire in an apartment located above a business.
When crews arrived, they found that the fire had started in the second-floor apartment. Firefighters quickly worked to extinguish the flames, preventing the incident from becoming more serious.
Officials said no injuries were reported in connection with the fire.
The building’s utilities were shut off as a result of the incident. Two adult residents were displaced from the apartment and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
The fire also temporarily affected the business located on the first floor. The business was closed during the emergency response, but officials said its showroom was expected to reopen Thursday.
The response came while Hanson firefighters were also dealing with mutual-aid responsibilities in neighboring communities. Later Wednesday evening, at approximately 7:11 p.m., a Hanson engine was sent to provide station coverage for the Whitman Fire Department.
Hanson Fire Chief O’Brien praised the department’s firefighters and mutual-aid partners for their response, noting that one Hanson engine was already assisting another community when the Main Street fire was reported.
Despite that challenge, firefighters and neighboring departments were able to provide the necessary resources to respond to the apartment fire while maintaining emergency coverage for Hanson and surrounding communities.
The cause of the fire was identified as cooking-related, according to Hanson Fire.
No injuries were reported, but the incident left two residents temporarily without a home. The Red Cross is assisting the displaced adults as they deal with the aftermath of the fire.
