BROCKTON AREA TRANSIT AUTHORITY – Today, Brockton Mayor Moises M. Rodrigues and Brockton Area Transit Authority Administrator Michael J. Lambert jointly announced significant increases to bus and paratransit service throughout the greater Brockton region. For the first time in its history, BAT will now operate all routes on Labor Day, New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, and the 4th of July, resulting in nearly 1,000 new round trips per year. Additionally, starting Tuesday, September 8th, BAT will add seven round trips to weekday Stoughton service, thereby ensuring consistent 30-minute frequencies throughout the day. In addition, all fixed route and paratransit services will remain free until July of 2027.
“This is a big win for everyone in Brockton who relies on the bus. Adding holiday runs and cuƫting down
wait times means our community gets a transit system that continues to adapt to the everyday lives of
our residents,” proclaimed Mayor Rodrigues.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank BAT’s customers, drivers, and mechanics for helping to
complete over 3.8 million trips on BAT service last year,” stated Administrator Lambert. “This increase in
demand, along with community advocacy, led directly to our ability to expand our schedule. This, in turn,
allows BAT to advance toward its goal of allowing Brockton-area residents to travel easily around the
region without the need for a private vehicle.”
“Adding bus service on holidays, in addition to increased Stoughton service, will make a
meaningful difference for riders across the BAT service area. More frequent and convenient
service means more opportunities for people to get to where they need to go – whether commuting to
work, visiting family and friends, or running errands. Thanks to the Healey-Driscoll Administration,
we are continuing to strengthen public transportation and deliver more reliable, accessible service for
riders,” shared MassDOT Rail & Transit Administrator Meredith Slesinger.
