Whitman Woman Denied Parole in 1988 Hammer Murder Case After 36 Years
Whitman MA-A woman serving a life sentence for the 1988 hammer killing of a Whitman man has been denied parole following a unanimous decision by the Massachusetts Parole Board.
Teresa Brugliera, 57, was convicted of first-degree murder in 1989 in the death of 25-year-old David John Regan. Brugliera, who was 19 at the time of the killing, became eligible for parole after a 2024 Massachusetts court ruling allowed individuals who were between 18 and 20 years old at the time of their crimes to seek parole review.
According to parole board records, the board determined that Brugliera would benefit from additional treatment while incarcerated and cited a lengthy disciplinary history as part of its decision. Officials scheduled the next parole hearing for three years from now.

The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office opposed Brugliera’s release, arguing that the severity of the crime and the impact on the victim’s family warranted continued incarceration.
