Man Detained After Allegedly Brandishing Firearm Outside South Shore Tech Prom in Kingston
Kingston MA-An 18-year-old man was detained Thursday night after police say he made threats and brandished a firearm outside the South Shore Technical High School prom in Kingston.
According to police, the incident happened around 7:15 p.m. at 60 Country Club Way, where the prom was being held. Officers responding to a disturbance call learned that a male in the parking lot had allegedly displayed a firearm during an escalating confrontation.
Investigators said the 18-year-old had reportedly been denied entry to the prom because he was not permitted to attend. Police say he then became involved in an argument with a female attendee, which escalated into threats against students. Authorities allege the man threatened to run over a student, pointed the firearm toward the sky, and racked a round into the weapon before fleeing the area in a vehicle.
Police immediately increased security at the prom while officers interviewed witnesses and tracked the suspect to a residence in Randolph. After police surrounded the home and attempted contact, the man eventually surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody.
No injuries were reported, and officials said there is no ongoing threat to the public. As of Friday morning, authorities had not released the suspect’s name or announced formal charges. The investigation remains ongoing.
