Soaking Rain Expected Across Massachusetts as Storm System Moves Into New England
Plimoth Today Staff
November 4, 2026-Massachusetts residents are getting a break from the recent dry weather, but that is expected to change as a storm system moves into New England, bringing widespread rain and potentially heavy downpours later this week.
According to Boston 25 News meteorologists, Thursday will bring another unusually warm day, with temperatures climbing into the lower and middle 70s across much of Massachusetts. Coastal communities, including Cape Cod, are expected to remain somewhat cooler.
When will the rain arrive?
Most of eastern Massachusetts is expected to remain dry for much of Thursday. However, clouds will increase as the approaching storm system moves closer.
Showers could begin developing across western Massachusetts and nearby parts of New England by Thursday afternoon. A few showers may reach the Boston area Thursday evening.
Rain chances will increase Thursday night as the storm approaches the region.
Friday expected to bring widespread rain
Friday is shaping up to be the wettest day of the forecast.
Steady rain is expected to spread across Massachusetts throughout the day and continue into Friday night. Boston 25 has designated Friday as a Weather Alert day because of the anticipated rainfall.
Drivers should prepare for wet roadways, reduced visibility and possible water accumulation in low-lying areas.
What about the weekend?
Rain could continue into Saturday, although the weekend is not expected to be a complete washout.
Additional showers are possible Saturday morning and afternoon, with another round potentially moving through Saturday night into early Sunday.
A few lingering showers could remain possible early Monday.
Temperatures expected to drop
The unsettled weather will also bring an end to the unusually warm conditions.
Temperatures are expected to remain in the 70s Thursday before falling into the 60s Saturday. By Sunday, highs are expected to settle into the 50s.
Residents should keep an eye on changing forecasts as the storm system approaches.
