North Quincy Raiders Dominate Hanover 35‑0 in Lightning‑Delayed Victory
HANOVER Mass— The North Quincy High football team put on a showcase performance Friday, Oct. 16, defeating Hanover 35‑0 in a game that was briefly halted by a lightning delay. The Raiders’ offense sparked the win with a burst of scoring in the first half and added a late touchdown after the weather pause.

Gavin Brown opened the scoring with a 67‑yard touchdown on a screen pass from junior quarterback Cole Doyle just 8:32 into the contest. Brown followed with a 1‑yard plunge and a 20‑yard reception before halftime, accounting for three touchdowns and helping North Quincy build a 28‑0 lead. The defense also contributed to the shutout, with senior linebacker Andy Lowe delivering a critical play in the second quarter. Lowe intercepted a pass in Hanover territory and returned it 85 yards for a touchdown, giving the Raiders a 14‑0 advantage at the 10:58 mark.
The game’s only interruption came at the 10:32 mark of the third quarter when lightning forced a 30‑minute pause. Upon resuming, Doyle connected with Connor Lynch on a 75‑yard touchdown pass on the first play after the delay, extending the lead to 35‑0. Lynch described the momentum shift: “We came out of the second half, just kept stepping on the pedal.”
First‑year coach Greg Sommers, a 2002 North Quincy graduate, praised his senior class for the effort that produced the win. “They’re a ton of fun,” Sommers said. “They push us as coaches to come up with more stuff to make them work harder on. … They don’t want to be done. They want to keep going. Their motor is pretty good.” He also highlighted Lowe’s play as an unsung hero, noting that the defense’s ability to create turnovers was pivotal.
The victory marks North Quincy’s first win over Hanover since the abbreviated Fall II season in the spring of 2021 and places the Raiders at 6‑0 on the season. The current winning streak is the longest the program has recorded in 34 years, giving the team both immediate momentum and historic significance.
The Raiders will continue their schedule next week, aiming to add to the streak while maintaining the high level of play demonstrated against Hanover.
