Multiple Fights and Police Assaults Mar South Shore High School Football Game
HANSON, Mass. — Authorities report that multiple criminal charges are pending following a pair of violent disturbances at a Friday night high school football game on the South Shore.
According to the Hanson Police Department, officers responded to “two troubling incidents” during the matchup between Whitman-Hanson Regional High School and Silver Lake Regional High School.
The tension first boiled over when several students were ejected from the stadium due to disruptive behavior. Shortly after, a physical altercation broke out in the stands. As officers stepped in to break up the fight, a juvenile uncooperatively resisted orders and physically assaulted the responding police personnel. The suspect was subsequently taken into custody.
Later in the evening, a second, more severe altercation erupted. Investigators stated that a juvenile repeatedly kicked and stomped on another individual’s head during the brawl. Witnesses also reported that a knife was brandished during the chaos. Because many of the individuals involved fled the scene before law enforcement could secure the area, that second incident remains actively under investigation.
In an official statement, police emphasized their commitment to community safety:
“Hanson Police enjoy being on the field to support Whitman-Hanson teams. The objective of officers is to maintain a safe and healthy environment for students, student athletes, and spectators. Those who create an unsafe environment are dealt with swiftly and professionally to ensure the safety of all.”
Authorities have not yet released details regarding potential injuries. Anyone with additional information or video footage of the incidents is encouraged to contact local police as the investigation continues.
