Marion & Mattapoisett Secure $19.5 Million in Federal Transportation Funding
Marion / Mattapoisett -Are set to receive approximately $19.5 million in federal transportation funding. The money will be split between a new walking and bicycle path and crucial interstate construction work.
The announcement was part of a broader $153 million package secured by Governor Maura Healey on September 24 for transportation projects across Massachusetts—including roads, bridges, pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, and MBTA work. This funding comes via the Federal Highway Administration’s annual redistribution process, which reallocates unused funds from other states and federal programs before the fiscal year ends.
How the Tri-Town Funding is Allocated:
- Marion Shared-Use Path ($4.74 million): Marion will receive funding for Phase 1 of a walking and bicycle path running from the Marion-Mattapoisett town line to Point Road. This path will eventually form part of a larger network connecting Mattapoisett to Wareham, as well as the wider SouthCoast Bikeway.
- I-195 Resurfacing Project ($14.71 million): Mattapoisett, Marion, and Wareham share this funding. The project focuses on resurfacing and preserving pavement along Interstate 195 across all three municipalities.
