UPDATE: Investigation Deepens Following Head-On Route 80 Crash Linked to Kingston Pursuit

PLYMOUTH — Law enforcement officials in Plymouth and Kingston continue to investigate a violent head-on collision on Plympton Road (Route 80) near West Plymouth Square that sent an adult driver to a Boston trauma center and led to the arrest of an unlicensed 17-year-old girl.

Well-Being Call Precedes Sudden Flight Building on initial reports published yesterday by Plimoth Today, official police logs and emergency response accounts now paint a clearer timeline of the events leading up to Thursday’s midday crash.

According to the Kingston Police Department, officers were dispatched to a local residence just before 12:00 p.m. following an urgent request from family members to conduct a well-being check on the teenager. Shortly after officers arrived at the scene, the youth took the keys to a family member’s vehicle and sped away.

Pursuit Terminated Over Public Safety Risks Kingston officers initiated a traffic stop after observing the unlicensed teenager operating the vehicle erratically through local neighborhoods. As the juvenile accelerated and refused to pull over, police supervisors made the tactical decision to terminate the active pursuit before crossing into Plymouth, citing elevated public safety risks along heavily traveled traffic corridors.

Catastrophic Impact at West Plymouth Square Minutes after the pursuit was called off, emergency dispatchers received multiple 911 calls reporting a severe crash near the intersection of Plympton Road (Route 80) and Carver Road, directly adjacent to the West Plymouth Square commercial plaza.

Arriving Plymouth Police and Fire crews discovered a heavily damaged SUV and a sedan locked together in the roadway after colliding head-on. Eyewitness Mark Michalski, who was nearby when the impact occurred, described the sudden violence of the crash.

“It sounded like a car falling out of the sky—metal on metal, a big smash noise,” Michalski reported.

Extrication and MedFlight Evacuation The impact left the adult male driver of the sedan heavily entrapped inside the crushed cabin of his car. Plymouth Fire Chief Neil Foley and Plymouth Police Chief Dana Flynn confirmed that rescue crews had to deploy heavy hydraulic extrication tools—the Jaws of Life—to cut away the vehicle frame and free the trapped motorist.

Paramedics treated the driver at the scene before rushing him to a landing zone established at Plymouth Municipal Airport. A Boston-MedFlight helicopter landed at the airfield to airlift the victim directly to a Boston Level 1 Trauma Center, where he remains hospitalized with serious injuries.

Foot Pursuit and Immediate Arrest Following the collision, the 17-year-old driver exited her damaged SUV and fled the scene on foot toward adjacent retail parking lots. Michalski noted that he crossed paths with the teenager as she ran from the wreckage.

“She was trotting at a good pace. I said, ‘Are you okay, are you okay?’ She looked at me and said, ‘I am fine, thank you,'” Michalski recalled.

Plymouth police flooded the area and located the juvenile a short distance away. She was taken to an area hospital for evaluation of minor injuries before being booked into custody at Plymouth Police Headquarters.

Road Closure and Pending Charges Plympton Road remained closed between Carver Road and surrounding corridors for nearly four hours Thursday afternoon while crash reconstruction teams mapped skid marks and processed physical evidence.

Both the Plymouth and Kingston Police Departments confirmed that multiple criminal charges are pending, including unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, negligent driving to endanger, failure to stop for a police officer, and leaving the scene of a crash causing personal injury. Due to state statutory protections regarding juvenile offenders, authorities have not released the suspect’s identity.
