RV Plows Through Plymouth Seawall on Water Street; Emergency Repairs Underway Ahead of Potential Weekend Storm

PLYMOUTH MASS— Town officials are scrambling to secure a gaping hole in the Water Street seawall after a recreational vehicle crashed through the barrier Wednesday morning, just as forecasts warn of a potential coastal nor’easter this weekend.

According to the Department of Public Works, contractors under the direction of DPW Director Bill Coyle are scheduled to begin permanent repairs on Thursday, September 24. However, officials warn that the restoration work will take several days to complete.

To safeguard the breach against incoming weekend weather, crews are installing temporary concrete Jersey barriers along the site. Under the current schedule, the barriers will be shifted out of the way during active daytime construction and repositioned each evening until the seawall is fully restored.

“Couldn’t Leave Without Stopping at Plymouth Rock”

The vehicle involved in the crash belongs to Gary and Donna Sinrich of North Carolina, who were traveling through the Northeast on a road trip.

Gary Sinrich told the Media that the couple had departed Cape Cod on Wednesday morning and “couldn’t leave without stopping at Plymouth Rock.” According to Sinrich, the crash occurred when he accidentally pressed the gas pedal instead of the brake.

Fortunately, neither he nor his wife sustained injuries in the incident.
