BREAKING: Violent Head-On Crash Closes Plympton Road in West Plymouth; Driver Airlifted to Boston
WEST PLYMOUTH — A violent head-on collision near West Plymouth Square left one driver severely injured and forced the closure of Plympton Road late Thursday morning.
Emergency personnel from the Plymouth Police and Fire departments were dispatched to the area of Plympton Road and Carver Road shortly before 12:00 p.m. following reports of a heavy two-vehicle collision with driver entrapment.
- Critical Extrication & Airlift: First responders arrived to find severe front-end damage on both an SUV and a sedan. Firefighters utilized hydraulic tools to cut a male driver free from the wreckage of the sedan. He was transported by EMS to a landing zone at Plymouth Municipal Airport before being flown via medical helicopter to a Boston trauma center with serious injuries.
- Secondary Injury: The female driver of the SUV was evaluated at the scene and transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
- Traffic & Public Safety Impact: Plymouth Police shut down Plympton Road in the immediate vicinity of West Plymouth Square to clear heavy debris and conduct preliminary crash reconstruction work. Motorists were urged to seek alternate routes through Carver Road and Route 44.
The cause of the crash remains under active investigation by the Plymouth Police Department and Plymouth Fire Department. Updates will be provided as official details are released.
