Plymouth, MA Police Arrest Armed Suspect After Overnight Standoff in Woods Following Reported Shooting Inside Home

PLYMOUTH, Mass. — An armed suspect was taken into custody early Wednesday morning after an overnight police response that began with reports of a disturbance involving a firearm and ended with a standoff in a wooded area.

According to Boston 25 News, Plymouth Police responded to a home on Royal Street at approximately 3:45 a.m. after receiving reports of a disturbance involving a firearm. Investigators say a 54-year-old Plymouth man allegedly assaulted another resident before firing a gun inside the home.

Police said the suspect fled the residence before officers arrived, disappearing into nearby woods. Responding officers secured the home, confirmed the suspect was no longer inside, and determined that no one had been injured during the incident.

Authorities quickly established a perimeter around the wooded area while additional law enforcement resources responded to assist in the search. Members of the Metro-LEC SWAT team were called in and eventually located the suspect hiding in the woods.

The suspect was taken into custody without further incident, bringing the overnight standoff to a peaceful conclusion.

Police have not publicly released the suspect’s name but confirmed he is a 54-year-old Plymouth resident. He is expected to be arraigned in Plymouth District Court on Wednesday. Officials have not yet announced the specific charges he will face.
