Coyote Reported Circling Residential Yard on Circuit Street

Hanover, Mass-A coyote was reportedly seen circling a residential yard on Circuit Street in Hanover Monday afternoon, according to a local wildlife report.

The sighting was reported at approximately 3:01 p.m., when the animal was observed moving around the property. No injuries, attacks, or encounters with residents were reported.

Coyotes have become a common sight across Massachusetts, including suburban communities where they may travel through neighborhoods while searching for food, water, and shelter. Although most coyotes avoid people, wildlife officials remind residents to use caution and avoid approaching or attempting to interact with them.

Residents are encouraged to take steps to reduce the chance of attracting coyotes, including securing trash containers, removing outdoor food sources, and keeping pets supervised when outside. Small animals should be kept close, especially during early morning and evening hours when coyotes are often more active.

If a coyote appears unusually comfortable around people, acts aggressively, or appears sick or injured, residents should contact local animal control or wildlife officials for guidance.

The reported sighting highlights the continued presence of coyotes throughout the South Shore, where wildlife and residential neighborhoods often overlap.
