Brockton MA: Hanover Police Officer Indicted on New OUI Homicide Charge in Fatal Hit-and-Run

Brockton, Mass. — An off-duty Hanover police officer already facing charges in a fatal Brockton hit-and-run has now been indicted on an additional charge of OUI homicide, according to court records.

Officer Thomas Hayes, 36, was previously charged with motor vehicle homicide and leaving the scene after prosecutors allege he struck and killed 23-year-old Alfredo Alves in Brockton in February before driving away. Investigators say witnesses later identified Hayes as the driver, and authorities located the damaged SUV at his Hanover home.

The new indictment adds an allegation that Hayes was operating under the influence at the time of the crash. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. The case remains pending in court.
