Brockton Mayor Moises Rodrigues Appears in Court Following Allegations of Misconduct at City Parade

BROCKTON, Mass. – Brockton Mayor Moises Rodrigues appeared in Brockton District Court on Monday, June 22, 2026,

Mayor Moises Rodrigue

to address a harassment prevention order filed against him by a local high school student. The legal proceeding follows an alleged incident during a public celebration that has sparked significant community discussion and triggered an investigation by state authorities.

The hearing centered on allegations stemming from the Huntington Day Parade held in downtown Brockton on May 22, 2026. According to court documents, a female student from Brockton High School alleges that Mayor Rodrigues grabbed her by the waist while he was attending the event. The student claims the unsolicited physical contact occurred along the parade route as the Mayor interacted with members of the public.

The matter first drew widespread public attention during Brockton High School’s graduation ceremony on June 8, 2026. In a moment that disrupted the commencement proceedings, the student’s mother publicly accused the Mayor of the alleged misconduct. While police eventually escorted the woman from the ceremony to allow the event to continue, no criminal charges were filed in relation to the disruption.

Following the public accusation, a temporary harassment prevention order was issued by the court. The order requires Mayor Rodrigues to maintain a distance of at least 100 yards from the student. Monday’s hearing served as a formal review to determine whether the order should remain in effect, be modified, or be vacated as the investigation into the underlying claims continues.

Mayor Rodrigues has moved to firmly deny the allegations. In statements released through his office and in court filings, the Mayor maintained that he has no recollection of any specific interaction with the student during the crowded parade. His legal team emphasized that the Mayor was performing his public duties at the time and that his interactions with constituents were consistent with the nature of the community event. His office further stated that he is fully cooperating with the ongoing inquiry.

“The Mayor takes these matters seriously and is committed to a transparent process,” a spokesperson for the Mayor’s office indicated, adding that they are confident the facts will clarify the situation.

The case has been referred to the Massachusetts State Police and the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office to ensure an impartial review. As of Monday afternoon, authorities confirmed that the investigation remains active and ongoing. No criminal charges have been filed against the Mayor at this stage.

Legal experts note that harassment prevention orders in Massachusetts are civil in nature but carry significant weight, particularly for public officials. To maintain such an order, the court must find that there is a pattern of harassment or a specific act involving physical force or the threat of such force.

The atmosphere at the Brockton District Court on Monday was somber as attorneys for both parties presented their initial arguments before a judge. While the details of the student’s testimony remain largely shielded due to her status as a student and the sensitive nature of the allegations, the court is expected to weigh the student’s account against the Mayor’s denial and any available video footage or witness statements from the parade route.

As the city of Brockton awaits further developments, community leaders have called for patience. The case remains a point of focus for residents, balancing the Mayor’s long-standing record of public service against the seriousness of the student’s allegations.

A follow-up date for further court proceedings has not yet been finalized, pending the results of the State Police investigation. For now, the temporary harassment prevention order remains a matter of public record as the judicial system determines the next steps in this developing case.

Status: Investigation ongoing
Jurisdiction: Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office / Massachusetts State Police
Next Steps: Judicial review of the prevention order remains pending.
