PLYMOUTH, Mass. — A dangerous domestic standoff on Clark Road in Plymouth ended peacefully after police negotiated the surrender of Nicholas Munroe accused of holding his wife hostage at knifepoint inside her home.


? Timeline of Events

According to officials from the Plymouth Police Department, the incident began when a woman called 911 reporting that her estranged husband had forced entry into her residence and was threatening her.

When officers arrived, they encountered an active hostage situation:

  • The suspect was armed with a large butcher knife
  • He allegedly held the weapon to the victim’s neck
  • He refused repeated commands from police

Four children were inside the home at the time, increasing the urgency and danger of the situation.


? Police Response

Officers quickly secured the area and took immediate action to protect those inside. Police were able to:

  • Safely remove all four children from the home
  • Establish communication with the suspect
  • Bring in trained negotiators to de-escalate the situation

The standoff lasted approximately 45 minutes to one hour.


⚖️ Peaceful Surrender

After sustained negotiation, the suspect:

  • Released the victim unharmed
  • Dropped the weapon
  • Surrendered peacefully to officers

Police stated the situation had the potential to turn deadly but was resolved without injuries due to careful de-escalation.

The suspect, identified as a 40-year-old Nicholas Munroe , is facing multiple charges, including:

  • Kidnapping
  • Assault with a dangerous weapon
  • Domestic assault and battery
  • Violation of a restraining order
  • Breaking and entering
  • Witness intimidation
  • Multiple counts of child endangerment

He is being held pending a mental health evaluation and a dangerousness hearing at Plymouth District Court.

Officials emphasized that domestic violence calls are among the most unpredictable and dangerous situations officers face, particularly when weapons and children are involved.

They credited trained negotiators and coordinated response efforts for preventing injuries and bringing the situation to a safe conclusion.

Neighbors in the Clark Road area described a large police presence and a tense atmosphere as the situation unfolded. Many expressed relief that the victim and children were safe and that the incident ended without violence.
