MARSHFIELD, MA – The Brant Rock community is mourning the loss of Nicholas J. Drosopoulos, the beloved founder of Venus II and a fixture of the South Shore restaurant scene for over half a century. Known affectionately to generations of patrons as “Mr. Nick,” Drosopoulos passed away on April 15, 2026, at the age of 82.
A Legacy Built on Community
Born in Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1944, Drosopoulos immigrated to the United States in 1956. In 1975, he established Venus II in Brant Rock, transforming it from a simple pizza shop into a quintessential gathering spot for locals and summer tourists alike.
His influence extended beyond Marshfield as his family expanded the business to include Venus III in Hanson and the Brant Rock Hop. Despite the growth of the family’s hospitality footprint, Mr. Nick remained a constant presence, often found rolling dough in the kitchen or holding court at his regular corner booth at the Hop.
Family and Service Details
He is survived by his wife, Margaret, his four children—Christina, Nicholas Jr., Stephen, and David—and five grandchildren.
- Funeral Services: A funeral mass was celebrated on April 27 at the Annunciation Church in Brockton, followed by burial at Melrose Cemetery.
- Memorials: The family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Marshfield Education Foundation (P.O. Box 1275, Marshfield, MA 02050), an organization dedicated to supporting local students and teachers.
For many in Marshfield, the passing of Mr. Nick marks the end of an era for the historic Brant Rock waterfront, where he was remembered not just as a business owner, but as a generous neighbor who treated every customer like family.
